Derby company Vibrant Doors are the latest business to join Derbyshire Institute of Sport (DIS) as a top-tier Gold sponsor, showing their support for local athletes by helping to open doors to their future success.
On hearing from fellow businessman HUUB’s Dean Jackson about Derbyshire Institute of Sport’s mission to Develop, Inspire and Support champions, Vibrant Doors owner John Shaw could see that their philosophy aligned well with his own. Both companies were founded in 2012 and, over the past 10 years, have offered countless opportunities to young people in the area – DIS through their athlete development programmes and Vibrant Doors through training and employment. While certain routes have traditionally been ‘closed off’ to those from a less privileged background, both organisations aim to ensure that opportunities are open and accessible to all, regardless of background. Affordability shouldn’t be a barrier to success and, through the generosity of sponsors like Vibrant Doors, DIS are able to reduce the cost of their world-class support programmes for talented athletes.
John, born in Alvaston, is a proud Derby man who loves to see young local people thriving and putting his beloved Derbyshire on the map – which is exactly what DIS athletes do, as Derbyshire Institute of Sport’s founder and Managing Director, Chloe Maudsley, explains: “Our mission has always been to create a one-stop shop of practical services – such as strength and conditioning, nutrition, physiotherapy and psychological support – along with mentoring and advice to help more local athletes to become champions. We’ve had great success with a staggering 10 DIS alumni representing Team GB in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, 22 athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games, and a recent para-cycling World Champion. They’re some impressive achievements for local talent! Our sponsors are the ones that make the programme possible and accessible and we are incredibly grateful for their support and generosity.”
Abigail Mcintosh, Social Media Manager at Vibrant Doors, explains why John was so taken with the DIS ethos: “The team at Vibrant Doors comprises a great mix of different ages, bringing a combination of experience and fresh young energy. John has always employed a lot of young people straight from school or college, keen to give them an opportunity not just for employment but to train, learn and grow, furnishing them with the skills they need to succeed in their future career, wherever that may take them.” There are evident parallels here with DIS’s mission to enable upcoming Derbyshire sports people to be the best they can be; this sponsorship a truly great match!
John says this approach brings great strength to the business: “Nurturing talent is great for local young people whilst also making the business dynamic and a formidable competitor in the marketplace. This commitment to shaping and growing the team has provided Vibrant Doors with a willingness and ability adapt in a changing business landscape. Having started out in business mainly supplying external doors, we now sell internal and external doors to supply routes in the UK and Europe and the business is going from strength to strength.”
