Congratulations to our strength and conditioning coach Alex Van Enis who travelled to Spain to present at an international sports science conference.
It’s a huge accolade for our coaching expert who is studying for a PhD in neurophysiology, biomechanics, and strength & conditioning at the University of Derby.
Alex leads the Derbyshire Institute of Sport’s Performance Prep and Development Squad programmes and is a coach for the Performance Academy sessions.
He was in Seville to present a study from his PhD at the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) 27th annual congress earlier this month.
The subject was the influence of assisted and resisted variable resistance back squat on subsequent counter movement jump performance.
He recruited sports students and athletes from the University of Derby who had experienced five years of resistance training.
Alex, who started his PhD in January 2020, said his studies help him in his coaching responsibilities at DIS.
“It is an honour to be presented this work at the congress. It was exciting to present the work I’ve been doing over the past two years,” he said.
“I have already used my research in my strength and conditioning work with DIS athletes with the adoption of elastic bands for resistance training.”
Alex in on course to graduate in summer 2023.
